January Newsletter

The January newsletter was sent home will every student on Wednesday, January 11.  A copy can also be downloaded by clicking HERE.  If you would like to receive a copy of the newsletter via e-mail, please sign up for the AIS West List Serv.  Directions can be found at the bottom of the page.  At this time, there are 3 ways to receive the newsletter; hard copy from your student, via e-mail or by visiting the AIS West webpage.  We would like to eliminate the hard copies we are sending home to each student.  In order to make this possible, we are encouraging parents to sign up for our List Serv.  This will ensure that you are getting the latest newsletter sent directly to your e-mail address along with weekly reminders from the school.

All Pro Dad Breakfast Meetings

AIS West will continue their All Pro Dad breakfast meetings this school year. The All Pro Dad program is a part of the Family First Organization.  Former Colts Coach Tony Dungy is an endorser and sponsor of both programs.  The monthly breakfast meetings will be held before school where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids at school.  At these gatherings, they will discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, have fun and equip families with resources to strengthen their relationship.  These meetings will take place Friday mornings before school at 7:00 a.m. in the Cafe. The dates are 1/20, 2/17, 3/16, 4/13 and 5/11.  While the All Pro Dads organizaition gives schools resources to start conversations during the breakfast meetings, they would like to have local public figures speak during one of the meetings.  If this is something that you are able and willing to be a part of, please contact Bob Stegemann at allprodad@att.net

Before School Intervention Program

This program will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Tuesday, August 30th.  An AIS West teacher will be available from 7:15-7:45 a.m. to help with homework and organization.  Students do not need to sign up ahead of time to take advantage of this opportunity.  Students should come prepared with questions about the particular homework assignment.  For a complete list of all dates, click HERE to visit the calendar on our website.

After School Study Tables Program

This program will be available to students to assist with Language Arts and Math skill gaps.  This intervention time will also focus on test taking skills, organization, and study skills.  This program will be held three days a week from 2:45-4:15 p.m. beginning Monday, September 26th.  The After School Study Tables program will continue until the end of the school year.  Parents will need to make arrangements for transportation.  Parents may also pay a one-time fee for their child to stay at the YMCA program, if more convenient, until 6:00 p.m.  More information will be provided at Parent/Teacher conferences if your child's teacher feels that your child can benefit from this program.  Please feel free to also contact Mrs. Miller, School Counselor, at 544-5900 or e-mail klmiller@avon-schools.org with any questions.  For a complete list of all dates, click HERE to visit the calendar on our website.

In Honor of the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, the Avon Education Foundation announces:

1st Annual AEF 500!
The goal is simple:
Racing to 500 donations of $20 or more by the end of the year!
Start your Engines and join the AEF 500!

At the AEF Community Breakfast on May 17, the Avon Education Foundation announced its 2011 Giving Campaign – the AEF 500.  Approximately 140 donors, including Guest Speaker Marine Veteran and Colts Spokesperson Josh Bleill, “started their engines” and entered the race by making their pledges & donations to the AEF 500 campaign.  Those 140 donors are leading the pack out of the “1st turn” and heading into the “2nd turn” of this event – but we need YOU!  Please help us!  Please make your donation of $20 or more so that together you can make a complete winning lap all the way around the AEF 500 track and win the race and achieve the goal of 500 donations!  WHY?  Requests for assistance from the Avon Education Foundation have already increased and are expected to increase even more this school year.  These are VERY challenging times – programs, teachers, and staff are being cut due to millions of dollars in state funding cuts to schools.  New sources of financial support are needed if students and schools are going to meet academic expectations.  Donations to AEF are tax-deductible.  $20 is very “doable” and together we can pool our resources to touch the future by impacting the educational future of Avon’s children!

Please return your donation or pledge card now!
Donations may be sent to:
